RIDGE – Handmade Marbled Porcelain Cup

Designed and made in our studio, RIDGE is a handleless cup for filter and black coffee. Brew to a server and pour into the cup — a light pour leaves room above the coffee to swirl and nose it, and keeps the cup comfortable to hold. It takes a cappuccino or flat white too, for anyone who wants one.

The shape is one we know well. RIDGE is an extended Cup S, a form that has been part of the studio's range for some time — now drawn taller, with a defined edge around the body. Same family, new proportions.

The cup narrows below the rim, then opens at the lip. The narrowing gathers aroma in the space above the coffee; the open lip brings it to the nose and sets how the coffee meets the palate. A light pour — around 100ml — leaves room to swirl and nose the coffee the way you would when tasting, then refill from the server as it cools. The shallow pour cools through a range from first sip to last.

Each piece is hand cast, which creates the marbled pattern that runs through the porcelain — no two are identical. Glazed to a gloss finish and fired at 1260°C.

Holds ~300ml to the brim — 9cm opening, 8.5cm tall.  .

Size guide

Each piece is unique

We are making Hand-made dinnerware. Each piece is unique with a distinct appearance. Small drips and holes on a surface are not considered as defects. Matt glaze makes each item unique. Scratches and marks will occur and they are not considered as defects. Color may vary depending on firing temperature and glaze composition.

Food safety

All our ceramics are made with food grade materials, all our suppliers have all necessary EU certificates that indicates that.

Cleaning and care

Unglazed porcelain surfaces, are sometimes susceptible to light stains, unlike glazed porcelain. Frequent washing can help remove and prevent staining. All our products can be placed in the dishwasher for daily washing and care. You can also place the item in a bowl of warm water with a detergent tab. Very stubborn stains and spots can sometimes be removed with diluted chlorine and lime remover.

Dark lines in the glaze (usually caused by silverware) can be removed by scrubbing with a sponge with dish soap and baking soda. Grease stains on matte glaze can be removed with baking soda and water.

If greasy fingerprints appear, rub the exposed porcelain with food safe oils, let sit, then clean with soap and water.

It is very important (and we highly suggest) that you let boiling water settle
(stop rolling/bubbling) before pouring it into a tableware item - especially a hand made piece. If the item is very cold to the touch, we also suggest pre-heating it with hot tap water. Pouring boiling water directly into a cool handmade cup, bowl or mug
may cause the item / glaze to crack.
